AI-Driven Innovations in Biomedical Imaging and Stem Cell Engineering Merged

This seminar presents cutting-edge advancements in biomedical imaging and stem cell engineering, highlighting the convergence of material science, automation, and artificial intelligence. The first part focuses on innovations in biomimetic environments, including the development of Circulatory System-on-Chip platforms and the assessment of hemoglobin polymer behavior at the single-cell level under controlled oxygen tension—advancements that offer promising biomarkers for improved sickle cell disease management.

Central to the imaging breakthroughs is the Automated Segmentation of Intracellular Substructures in Electron Microscopy (ASEM), a deep learning pipeline capable of identifying complex organelles such as mitochondria and nuclear pore complexes from 3D volume electron microscopy data using minimal annotated input. This automation significantly streamlines cellular analysis and enhances the resolution of biomedical imaging workflows.  In the domain of stem cell engineering, the seminar introduces AI-powered smart microscopy for human Mesenchymal Stem Cell (hMSC) culturing. This system continuously optimizes cell culture conditions in real time, addressing biological variability and enabling precise, patient-specific control over stem cell growth. By integrating dynamic stimulation, workflow automation, and advanced imaging technologies, this paradigm shift enables scalable and efficient stem-cell bio-manufacturing. Together, these innovations represent a significant leap forward in both diagnostic and therapeutic biotechnologies.
