ICON Master 2 Interdisciplinary Internship Grants 

 

The ICON Focus Semester, funded by the Academy 2 of UniCA, is pleased to announce the Open Call for Funding for Master 2 Internships which will support 3 projects. We invite applications from eligible Master’s students seeking financial support for internships related to the themes of the Focus Semester (see webpage for details)The purpose of these grants is to support students in gaining practical experience and advancing their academic and professional careers. 

The grant conditions are:   

  • a collaborative research project between two traditionally separated disciplines (e.g., biology and physics
  • participation of two UniCA research teams
  • joint submission of the project by the two Master Supervisors
  • candidate’s CV and letter of motivation 

Key Dates

  • Application Submission Opens: October 4, 2024 
  • Application Submission Deadline: November 5, 2024
  • Notification of Funding Decisions: December 4, 2024
  • Internship Start Date (Earliest): January 2025
  • Internship End Date (Latest): June 2025

Funding Overview

Grants will be awarded to support internships that contribute to the student’s academic and career development, matching the scopes of the ICON Focus SemesterThe funding will help cover: 

  • Student stipend
  • Small expenses related to the project 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this funding, applicants must: 

  • Be enrolled in a Master’s program at UniCA.
  • Have a good academic profile.
  • Work on a project submitted by two research groups of UniCA according to the Focus Semester guidelines.
  • Provide a letter of support from a supervisor or academic advisor.

Preference will be given to projects that:

  • Demonstrate clear learning objectives and professional development goals.
  • Are aligned with the student’s academic and career aspirations.
  • Best advance the goals of the ICON Focus Semester

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents:  

  1. Completed Application Form : download and fill : Fiche_Bourse_Master_ICON_en.doc
  2. Internship Proposal, included in the application form, where points 2 and 3 will highlight:
    1. Description of the internship project, including objectives, tasks, and expected outcomes.
    2. Explanation of how the internship aligns with academic and career goals.
    3. Timeline for the internship.
  3. Budget Plan: Detailed budget by the two research groups outlining the expected extra costs stemming from the project and justifying and the amount of funding requested from ICON.
  4. CV or summary: Detailing academic and professional experience (in addition to the form).
  5. Letter of Support for the candidate: From a faculty supervisor or academic advisor endorsing the candidate and confirming the intenship’s relevance to the student's program (in addition to the form).

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by a the ICON organizing committee based on the following criteria: 

  • Relevance of the internship to the student’s academic program, candidate’s CV, and career objectives.
  • Quality and feasibility of the internship proposal.
  • Alignment with the ICON objectives.
  • Budget compatibility with financial support by ICON.

Funding Conditions

  • The internship must begin no earlier than January 6, 2025 and be completed by June 30, 2025. 

  • Successful applicants will be required to submit a one-page final report summarising the internship experience and outcomes, due on the 15thJune, 2025. 

  • The results obtained from the project will be presented by each Intern during an event organized by ICON in the second half of June 2025.
